Q: Are CLB puppies potty trained when they arrive?
A: No they are not. I wish this is something we could provide for all of our customers, but they are not mentally mature enough to train while they are at our farm.
Q: Are there dog breeds that are considered to be hypoallergenic?
A: Yes. Some dog breeds have been promoted as hypoallergenic, because they shed very little hair and dander. For allergy sufferers, a hypoallergenic dog may enable them to have a pet in their home, whereas most pets can make their lives miserable. However, no dog is known to be completely non allergenic.
Q: Does CLB place a microchip in all of the puppies they raise?
A: Yes we do. Each puppy is given a microchip prior to leaving our facility.
Q: How do I know how large a puppy will be when it is fully-grown?
A: The best means of estimating the mature weight and size of a puppy is to consider the size of the parents. That information can be accessed on this website or you may ask a CLB representative, and they will provide the information for you.
Q: How old are your puppies when you sell them?
A: The USDA requires that all puppies are a minimum of 56 days of age before they can leave the breeder’s premises.
Q: I have never owned a dog. How do I know which breed would make the best pet for me?
A: We feel it is very important for people to understand the traits and characteristics of a breed before they select a puppy from that breed for their new pet. If you are unsure as to which breeds would be the most compatible with your current lifestyle and housing situation, we will be glad to help you with the breed selection process.
Q: I have read about dogs that do not shed any hair. Is this possible?
A: All dogs shed at least a little hair at one time or another, as do humans. There are however dogs that shed very little.
Q: I see on your website that all available puppies are pictured. At what age is the picture taken?
A: Each puppy is initially pictured at five weeks of age for our website, with updated pictures taken at two week intervals. If a puppy is sold, but is too young to leave our facility, we will send an updated picture and progress report to the new owner each week.
Q: I see that CLB raises purebred and designer puppies. What is the difference?
A: A purebred is one whose ancestors have been bred for many generations to only dogs of the same breed, while a designer breed is the result of two dogs of different purebred ancestry being intentionally mated, with the desire to create an animal that is unique to either of the purebred parents.
Q: If I decide that I want to purchase a puppy from CLB, what do I do to reserve it?
A: If you identify a puppy that you want to purchase, you will need to put down a $200 deposit to reserve it.
Q: If I do not live in an area that you routinely deliver to and I can't afford the extra cost of having you personally deliver my new puppy, how would it be delivered?
A: We will make arrangements to have your puppy flown to an airport near you. Please give us a call or email and we will explain how it will work and the cost.
Q: If I should elect to purchase a puppy from Cedar Lane Breeders, how would I get my puppy?
A: We prefer to personally deliver each of our puppies to the home of the new owner. This allows us to reduce the stress on the puppy to an absolute minimum, while giving us the opportunity to become better acquainted with the people who purchase our puppies. To learn more on how our delivery system works, please visit the DELIVERY section on this website.
Q: If someone else wants the same puppy as I do, how do you determine who gets to purchase the puppy?
A: It is not uncommon to have several individuals who are interested in the same puppy. To be fair to everyone, our policy is that the first person to get a $200 deposit down to reserve the puppy is the one who gets it.
Q: Is there a guarantee with a CLB puppy?
A: Yes. We guarantee the health on all of our puppies, and they come with a one-year guarantee against congenital and hereditary defects. To view our CLB warranty in it’s entirety, please refer to the WARRANTY section on this website.
Q: What do I need to have on hand when my new puppy arrives?
A: When your CLB puppy arrives, there will be a small sack of "Royal Canin" dog food. This is the brand we feed and what the puppy is used to, but there are other very good brands on the market as well (be sure you provide a high-quality puppy ration). You will need to have a pan to place the puppy's food in, and a water dish. Have a shallow basket or cardboard box with towels or something like that for a liner to provide comfort and warmth for your little guy. It is also a good idea to have a small stuffed toy for them to cuddle with, and some people like to put a loud ticking, wind up alarm clock in the basket for a few nights to simulate another puppy. The goal is to minimize the stress as much as possible. Remember, puppies are very resilient and adapt to their new surroundings and family members quickly.
Q: What does it mean when someone says that a dog is registered?
A: There are several breed registries for dog breeders to choose from. The sole purpose of a breed registry is to accurately record and document the ancestry of a dog within that breed.
Q: What if I am not happy with my puppy when it is delivered to me?
A: For the customers who we are able to personally deliver their new puppy to, if they are not satisfied with the puppy when it arrives, we will either give them a full refund or replace it with a different puppy. This does not apply to puppies that are delivered by air.
Q: What is a microchip?
A: A microchip is a device that is about the size of a grain of rice that is placed under the puppy’s skin. It gives the puppy an identification number that is unique to each individual animal and is registered and can be used as a means of providing positive identification in the event that a dog is either stolen or lost.
Q: What is Cedar Lane Breeders?
A: Cedar Lane Breeders is a family owned kennel that raises only small breeds of dogs.
Q: What is your payment policy?
A: We require a $200 down payment to reserve the puppy. The balance must be paid in full before the puppy will be shipped or delivered.
Q: What methods of payment does CLB accept?
A: We accept Pay Pal, Credit Card, Cashiers Check, Money Orders, and Personal Checks (the check must clear the bank before the puppy will be delivered).
Q: When I purchase a puppy from CLB, what comes with it?
A: When your puppy arrives at your home, there will also be the puppy registration forms, a pedigree if the puppy is a purebred, the puppy’s medical history report, the microchip registration form, and a puppy kit with a small amount of food and instructions on the care of your new family member.
Q: Where do you personally deliver your puppies?
A: At the present time, we run our personal delivery route each week in the Dallas-Ft. Worth and northern Texas area. We will personally deliver anywhere upon request, but there will be an additional cost to cover expenses.
Q: Where is your kennel located?
A: It is located on our family farm in north central Kansas, two miles from the Nebraska border.
Q: Which dog breed registry does CLB use?
A: CLB uses the American Canine Association registry or the ACA. We chose the ACA because they were very open and willing to answer all of our questions when we were making the decision as to what registry we would utilize. ACA also registers our designer puppies, allowing CLB to provide registration papers on every puppy that we raise.
Q: Which one is better, a purebred or a designer puppy?
A: If your intentions are to either enter your dog in breed show competitions, or to breed your dog to raise puppies, you will definitely want to purchase a purebred puppy. However, if you are buying a puppy to serve solely as your pet or companion, either will work equally well.
Q: Who makes up CLB?
A: Jim and Sherryl Zoltenko, their oldest son Lannin along with his wife Melanie, and Lannin's high school classmate Nathan Saathoff. Nate is the kennel manager.
Q: Why should I choose a CLB puppy, when there are so many other choices?
A: Cedar Lane Breeders is a kennel that is totally committed to excellence in every aspect of our operation. Our facilities, the quality of our breeding animals, our delivery system and the people who care for our animals and deal with our customers are all a reflection of our commitment to quality and doing things right.
